The first permanent centre for contemporary art in Uzbekistan, the CCA is a cultural meeting point for the region and a community space for the city in the heart of historic Tashkent. The Centre is housed in a revitalized 1912 industrial building - originally a diesel station and tram depot - currently being reimagined by award-winning architecture firm Studio KO.

Set within the revitalised industrial building, this exhibition series examines architecture as a vessel of cultural memory. Artists, architects, and researchers respond to the building’s legacy as a former power station—exploring themes of energy, labour, and transformation through installations, film, and spatial interventions.
Led by architects and historians, these tours trace the transformation of the Centre and its surrounding neighbourhoods. Participants explore the intersection of Soviet modernism, traditional Uzbek architecture, and contemporary design interventions.

The Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation (ACDF) and CCA continue in their commitment to preserving the historical mahallas of Tashkent, safeguarding their unique cultural and historical heritage, in a strategic collaboration with Studio KO.
This initiative underscores the government’s enhanced support for culture and the arts, aligning with broader efforts to foster a comfortable urban environment that respects and preserves the city’s authenticity.
A specialist research library focused on art, visual cultures, and critical theory, with an emphasis on perspectives from the Global Majority World and an expanding artists’ studio archive of local artists. By appointment only.
